Question by YourMom: How should we educate kids about sex?
There are generally three primary ways to do sex education...
1.) Abstinence-only. This includes only a very marginal reference to contraceptives.]
2.) Comprehensive. This deals with pre-marital sex in a non-judgemental--even permissary--manner and gives easy outlets for kids to access contraceptives. Schools may teach about masturbation, demonstrate condom use, hand out birth control, etc.
3.) Abstinence-plus. This program centers around abstinence being preferable and teaches abstinence as the best choice. But it also includes information on contraceptives. It is less likely to be explicit about masturbation and demonstrations of condom use. This is different from comprehensive sex-ed in that it judges abstinence to be the best option.
Most Americans, I think I saw in a poll, noted that they prefer abstinence-plus. I'm a conservative Christian and I think that's probably the most sane option. What say you?
